Why am I getting a warning when I try to access my router settings in a browser?
Many users trying to access router settings in a web browser will see a security warning after entering www.linksyssmartwifi.com, myrouter.local, or its associated router IP address. The message could look like one of these, depending on your browser:
"Can't establish a secure connection..."
"Your connection is not private..."
You might also see a specific error code displayed, including:
NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID
SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER
Here's an example of how this message looks in the Google Chrome browser:
Why am I seeing this? Should I be concerned?
You get this warning because browsers look for signed security certificates associated with websites you're trying to visit. Your router isn't a website, and doesn't have that type of certificate, but there's no need to be concerned. Your connection is secure and encrypted.
